Knox County Homeless Coalition (KCHC) serves individuals, families, and youth who are experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity in Knox, Waldo, and Lincoln counties, providing innovative care from shelter to sustainability.

The #1 reason for homelessness here is the critical lack of affordable housing.

This is closely followed by divorce, underscoring the economic challenges faced by single-earner households.

We meet basic needs, provide shelter solutions, connect to resources, and offer highly relational, trauma-informed support through the following programs:

  • Urgent Needs Coordination

  • Client Outreach

  • Community Outreach

  • Comprehensive Client Care for Youth & Adults

  • Housing Navigation & Education Services

  • Aftercare

  • Hospitality House Family Shelter

  • Overnight Respite Shelter for Youth (13-17)

  • Transitional Living Program for Youth

  • The Landing Place Youth Center

  • Transportation

  • Supply Center

A hard working family might become bitter after having purchased a home that turned out to be full of mold, leaving them without a roof over their head. For Jack and Cassie* however, that wasn’t how they were raised and wasn’t how they were going to raise their two teenage children. They spent their time in shelter focused on spreading kindness to others. While preparing to move into a rental, they helped shovel, take out the trash, run errands for those who couldn’t, babysat and together wrote more than 100 holiday greetings for those staying in nursing homes in our area.
